HAPPENINGS

Reasons You Should Donate Food After the Holidays

During each holiday season, many of us go back home and spend time with our families and friends.  We gather around dinner tables, feasting on a wide range of traditional dishes.  For many marginalized and underserved people, this is not possible.  Living on the street or even in a shelter can be a lonely and isolating experience. Please be generous after the holidays are over.  Shelters and Centers appreciate#10 cans of provisions, hygiene products, warm socks, hats, blankets.

DONATE TO FOOD BANKS,

ESPECIALLY

NORTHWEST HARVEST AND SECOND HARVEST.

Food banks are a lifeline for people experiencing food insecurity and provide steadfast support beyond the new year when problems persist.  Food banks fill in the gaps for individuals and families struggling with groceries, fresh produce, bread and other staples, helping to promote community and hope throughout the year. Your donation of provisions is essential in order to keep food banks stocked.

VOLUNTEER AT FOOD BANKS

People are needed to unload food stuffs, stock shelves, help folks with shopping and evenbagging bulk vegetables.  While volunteering, you help foster a sense of community whilecompanioning those in need.  Your presence goes a long way to restore hope to people who are hungry, lonely and isolated

DO NOT HAND OUT FOOD YOURSELF

We ask that you DO NOT distribute food on the street.  In some cities, this is actually illegal.  Handing sandwiches and other food to those livingon our streets may seem a rewarding experience for you, but this ENABLES people to continue to live on our streets rather than seekingprofessional help and shelter.

DONATE FUNDS TO THE CHRISTMAS PEOPLE

We buy bulk provisions and clothing from wholesale sources unavailable to  individuals.  Larger quantities and lower prices enable us to provide morefood to shelters and centers.  We are volunteers; and enjoy incredibly low overhead.  100% of your gift goes to the purchase of food, socks, hats, Blessing (hygiene) Bags.

May we be instruments of hope and love

We ask a blessing upon the homeless,
marginalized and underserved in our midst.

We remember our sisters and brothers—adults,

families, children– who are living with

no security, no shelter, and no safety from

the outside world.

Help us to provide extra warmth, peace and

opportunity for a better life. May we

supply nourishing food and drink that

their bodies may be nourished.

May we open our hearts and our hands to ease

their worries and provide hope where

there is no hope.

Through the giving of our time and our treasure,

may we demonstrate our love and pledge

that people on the street shall never be

forgotten.

May I offer compassion to those in need and

never miss an opportunity to work towards

ending poverty and homelessness so that no

one will live in want or in hunger.
